Nigeria's Next Top Designer

mnk

Nigeria’s Next Top Designer is an initiative of Africa fashion week London, Ebony Worth's and Mahogany productions, a United Kingdom production company which has been organizing and producing events for over 15 years.

The growing of fad and attraction for African inspired designs globally and the level of creativity displayed by Nigerian designers at the 2012 edition of AFWL, provides ample inspiration for the emergence of Nigeria’s Next Top Designer, NNTD.

It is a talent hunt show, aimed at promoting African inspired designs from Nigeria and fostering the promotion and development of aspiring Nigerian designers on the world stage.

A magnificent platform for emerging designers, it is a talent hunt show of a special kind, aimed at bringing together  various fashion designers from across the country to showcase the richness of the Nigerian fashion Culture and fabrics.

The project will provide overall management for the distinguished designers, help them develop their skills through our various workshops and trainings.

NNTD will instill pride in Nigerian fashion designs, promote the creativity of our talented designers, and celebrate the diversity of the Nigerian fashion culture and its  collective contribution to the fashion industry. It will pave the way for the expansion of Nigerian  designers into the global fashion industry, through our international partners. After eons of deliberating and pondering  on how to go about the project, a branded vision has now been conceptualized.

The global fashion market has seen a remarkable growth  in African inspired designs. Looking around us today, majority of mainstream designers have adopted  the new African urban look in their designs. Common and well known designs include the popular Ankara used mostly by Nigerians,  which is now finely crafted in unique and jaw  dropping  styles.

In this ever growing attraction for African inspired designs, Nigeria’s Next Top Designer arrives on the scene.
NNTD will be a  reality show which will include an audition for designers across the country. The competition will be open to aspiring, emerging, existing and new designers. It will be a cutting-edge competition that aims to find the best emerging designer in Nigeria. Participants will include fashion designers, textile designers, accessory designers, footwear and handbag designers, jewelers and milliners.

There will be designers representing the cultural fashion scene from all parts of Nigeria. A pool of 1000 new/emerging designers will be auditioned across the country. They will then be whittled down to 36 eventually by a panel of judges made up of fashion experts. The successful applicants will take part in various tasks to display their creativity. They will be groomed and mentored by our in house guest judges.
First the emerging designers will work in groups under the supervision of mentors and then as individuals to display their creativity in making fashion items. They will then be trained on how to turn their creative ideas into self sustenance.

The winner gets an all expense paid trip to UK for the African Fashion Week London AFWL 2014, goes home with a cash prize, equipment  and a workshop and showroom space  at the AFWL  concession store for one year.
Their collections will also be shown at African Fashion Week Nigeria AFWN 2013. There will be a lot of public and audience involvement. Viewers will be allowed to comment but the final winners will be chosen by the judges. At the heart of NNTD is the willingness to showcase the works of Nigerian designers to an international audience and also to work with them to build sustainable brands.

We will be looking for creative and unique talent that lives and breathes fashion to become the NNTD. There will be a minimum entry criteria and those who do not meet them will not be considered.

The Essentials Of Event Planning

Every day in Lagos people gather together for different reasons. ( professional or promotion ceremonies) Others are more of a personal nature or more social like a celebration of a child's graduation or a reunion between old friends.

Regardless of the reason there is one tie that binds them all together. The day of the event things will appear as the organizer(s) and planner(s) want them too. What guests may or may not know prior to the day of the event is just how much work went into planning the perfect gathering.

Organization

As with any large scale project, organization is crucial when planning a gathering of any size. Whether you are getting together with a friend over dinner or celebrating a wedding, you need to be organized! Not only will organization help you lay out the timeline of events that leads up to the big day, but it will also help you quickly understand if you need help.

When planning an event do not be afraid to call in favors as you need to. Knowing someone with connections to certain items will save you the time of scrambling to find those items. Those connections may also end up saving you money that can be put towards something else.

Know the Reason for the Event

While your guests may not necessarily need a reason to get together, you will need to know the reason for the event. This is important as it will lay the foundation for the entire day.

Planning a professional event can cover a variety of different celebrations. For instance, you may be chosen to lead the committee in charge of your company’s anniversary celebration. Prior to gathering with the rest of your team, if you have one, you will need to find out if the event will be open to the public or not. You may even be asked to plan two events, one that is open to the public and one just for the company.

Gatherings with personal overtones may be held to mark any major life event. For instance, if you have a college graduate looking to graduate this winter, now is not too early to plan their party. While these parties may seem small in nature there are many details that will need to be taken into consideration to make sure the celebration is as grand as the graduate wants.

Location

As the saying goes… location, location, location. Once you know the reason the event will be held, the next step in the process is to find the perfect location  to host it. When searching for locations, keep a budget in mind. You will also want to have a rough guestimate of how many will be in attendance, including children under 21 if any are expected. Do not settle for the first place you see. Call around and compare prices and amenities available to you.

Seating

Everyone, including you, is going to need a place to sit to talk and eat. Renting  banquet tables will allow you to provide ample room for your guests. These tables come in various styles that will work with any location.

Planning a gathering will take time and work. However, in the end, a good time will be had by all!

Women in Leadership - Technology, Corporations and Entrepreneurs
New Media Literacy

International Innovation
Labour Market Research for Women in Digital Media
Applications of Digital Media in Crossing the Digital Divide
Transmedia Content Creation
Women make up only 21 percent of all people featured in the news.
Women represent only 14 percent of all company spokespersons and 17 percent of all experts quoted in the news.
Women are most often presented in the media as voices expressing personal experience.
Women are twice as likely as men to be portrayed as victims in the news.
Women represent a mere 14 percent of all Sunday morning political talk show guest appearances.
WIMW set the stage for an exciting conference with an engaging, occasionally irreverent, hands-on, how-to interactive presentation designed to train and inspire women executives and entrepreneurs, catapulting them into respected notable and quotable media spokespersons …

Panel Discussion Sessions
The Inside Scoop: How to Get the Media Interested in You
Who are YOU and why should the media care?
Getting the media to know you and care about your message can be a challenge.  And when it happens, it is like electricity!  The energy and excitement can run through you a warp speed, and you can feel a little overwhelmed and sometimes even under-prepared. In this session Beverly will take you on a journey¦ an exciting journey of getting the media to care about the message you have to share will show you how to create an event that gets the media to sit up and take notice and talk and write about!  She will show you how you can connect with virtually anybody including celebrities to help you spread the word about your ideas.
How Blogging Can Help You Get Media Attention
Did you know that you can get the attention of your circle and reach customers without ever getting exposure on radio, TV or in the newspaper? Blogging is taking the world by storm and if you don’t yet have one, now is likely the best time to get that online journal of yours up and running.  So how can you get media attention with a blog? Blogging for Buzz can serve multiple purposes, from doing damage control when a product is attacked to simply giving the public reason to pay attention to your product and message.
In this session  you would know the media searches for companies and individuals. She will also discuss why they prefer blogs to websites when they are doing their research on potential individuals and companies they are writing about. Speaker would  share some real-life examples of those who have successfully and artfully used their blogs to garner the media’s attention and get talked about and written about over and over.
How to create web-optimized media releases  - Write for the spiders and the media will take notice!
In this session you will learn the importance of, and how to utilize a search engine optimized online press release. A  You will learn about the critical yet cost-effective and simple internet marketing and branding tool for your business growth, sustainability or visibility.
Speaker will take you behind the scenes of her online workshop and show you how she takes several news topics and creates and online search engine ranking magnet via PRWeb clients.   Would also share many other critical tools she uses to achieve stellar success in garnering publicity for her services and those of her clients.
Developing Your Media Platform Using a Storyboard
Storyboarding can be a complicated process.  If you need to develop a television show or other interactive media productions you will want to use storyboard software to help you with the process.  This type of software is specifically designed for visual design creation  just like a comic book.  However, for the small business owner or solopreneur who just wants to create a sound idea to pitch to media personnel the software is financially and learning impractical.
This session will help you learn a few different and simple ways to take a media angle and craft it into a storyboard that can then be easily pitched to media personnel with the objective to get the exposure for your business or product.
During this presentation, you will learn techniques on how to craft basic sound storyboards that you can pitch to media personnel that will help them make their job easier that will in turn get you more media exposure.
The Deadly Sins of Do-It-Yourself Publicity and Why to Avoid Them
How to work with the media to create winning results, and she wants to help business owners everywhere quickly get up to speed so they can do the same for their own growing businesses. In this session Nancy offers nuts-and-bolts advice and reveals insider secrets from her years and current experience in the media trenches. Her intention is to empower attendees to earn their own publicity without spending a fortune, wasting their time, or spinning their wheels.
Expose Yourself to the Media with Your Personal Brand
In this session the speaker discussed how little things can make a big difference when it comes to your personal brand, including:
· How to build your confidence to create a positive media reputation.
· How to get to anyone, including celebrities and experts.
· And how to determine who to connect with for the right kind of “exposure.

The Movie Maker Hall of Fame

This is the only Hall of its type in Africa founded by Eddie Ugbomah and those that were inducted in 2006 and 2007 don’t even care or even ask about the Hall. The reason is that we in Nigeria hate history and that is why we keep on repeating the same mistake since 1960 to date

Some of those to be remembered are Ashley Nwosu, Pet Eneh, Mrs. Omidina (Baba Suwe’s wife), Efere Ozako, Justus Esiri, Enebeli Enebuwa, Sam Loco, James Iroha (Gringory), J.T. West and Christy Essien. They will all be inducted posthumously and their portraits mounted at the exhibition.

We are honoring the likes of  Olu Jacobs, Levinus Nnochiri, Mahmood Ali-Balogun, Ishola Akinwunmi, Tunde Kelani, Iya Osha, Kabiru Yusuf, Bukky Wright, Aunty Bukky Ajayi, Bimbo Akintola, Fidelis Duker, Chico Ejiro, Zik Zulu Okafor, Ibinabo Fibiresima, Ajala Jalingo, Oga Bello, Iya Awero, Jim Lawson, Kanayo .O. Kanayo and Kenneth Okonkwo.

To show our appreciation and support for Mr. President, he would be inducted into the Movie Makers Hall Of Fame as Grand Patron, to be supported by Chief Raymond Dokpesi and Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi.

With the support from National Theater and Censors Board, we are having the last induction of new members.

All lovers, friends and associates are expected at the National Theater on the day.
